His first working experience was in 1978 at Coop. Agricola STEA in Solarolo which lasted one year. Then he worked for Az. Agr. Lamone in Mezzano during the first four months of 1979, and in May of the same year he was employed by Azienda Agricola Morini.
Within this collaboration he carried out several update trips abroad: France, United States, and Russia searching for first-rate fruit varieties to plant in the farm’s estates; since 2000 he has also managed the cultivation of forty hectares of orchards in Uruguay.
Luciano is a reliable, skilful, efficient and honest co-worker, as well as a wine lover, and in 1998 he enthusiastically undertook the commitment to help Alessandro Morini growing the most suitable vineyards yielding top quality grapes for wine production. He also increased his knowledge about growing techniques travelling to Piedmont and Tuscany, suggested new clones, and replanted the local varieties whose enhancement is one of the winery’s goals.
Sergio Ragazzini
Enologist
He was born in 1947 in Bagnacavallo, where he lives and works. He got his Oenology degree in 1967 at “G.B. Cerletti” Agricultural College in Conegliano Veneto where he specialized in vine growing and oenology; in the same year he started to work as a freelance collaborating with the most important wineries in Romagna such as Fattoria Zerbina and Ferrucci Stefano.
In 1968 he started working as a teacher of wine-making techniques at Istituto Professionale per l’Agricoltura e l’Ambiente in Faenza, an activity that has allowed him to carry out research and experiments both on local and international varieties.
In 1980 he conducted the first experiments on the Longanesi grapes, which he managed to promote on the national and international wine market thanks to his enthusiasm, tenacity and skill. In fact, in 1999 this variety was officially recognized and added to the National Register of Vine Varieties. Moreover, he turned Longanesi grapes into Bagnacavallo’s flagship product.
In 1998 he began to collaborate with Alessandro Morini who shares Ragazzini’s passion for research and testing on native varieties. Together, they have successfully launched a number of initiatives aimed at promoting Albana, Longanesi grapes and Centesimino. They achieved the same official recognition for Centesimino which was also added to the National Register.
Great people for a great wine
This production project has necessarily required the early involvement of “DOC” professionals of the wine world. Thus was born a team who laid the foundations of the vineyard’s success: enologist Sergio Ragazzini and agronomist Luciano Lusa. They can rely on the passionate collaboration of the employees who are committed on a daily basis to ensure that everything from the vineyard to the cellar complies with the most suitable working criteria.
Their skills, experience and sensibility to follow and share Poderi Morini’s philosophy have been the reasons underlying the steady growth and success of our quality wines. Vine-growing is carried out under the guide of Luciano Lusa, an experienced agronomist from Solarolo, who has been working with Natale Morini for over thirty years successfully taking care of the fruit orchards grown in a land stretching over one thousand hectares. Luciano is a reliable, skillful, efficient and honest co-worker, as well as a wine lover, who has increased his experience by undertaking several informative trips both in Italy (Tuscany, Piedmont) and abroad (France, United States, Russia, etc.).
Sergio Ragazzini plays a crucial and important role in the estate thanks to his extensive knowledge of the Romagna varieties and a long experience acquired over a fruitful forty-year-career as an enologist. His commitment, modesty and passion for wine, has made his collaboration with Alessandro and Luciano truly valuable and meaningful for the success of our project. “Nadèl”, the wine dedicated to Natale Morini, was one of his ideas: a blend of the four red varieties grown in the vineyard: Sangiovese, Merlot, Longanesi and Centesimino. Since its very first vintage, in 2001, it has received important acknowledgements and has met with an outstanding commercial success.
Sangiovese, Albana, Centesimino, Longanesi, Trebbiano, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc: every year we produce our wines from these varieties with the utmost care and passion, trying to improve ourselves harvest after harvest and to keep our quality standard, as well as Romagna’s name and honour, high.
